Welcome to Maynooth Christian Union

Maynooth Christian Union is back! You might want to know what we do and why it matters.

We are a multi-denominational Christian society that meet on a weekly basis to explore the claims of Christianity together on our campus. We hold a weekly Bible Study for those who are interested in finding out more about Christianity and the Bible, as well as various events to encourage discussion amongst students about issues such as the reality and importance of God’s existence, God’s grace and mercy, suffering, how God can impact our daily lives, the Resurrection and the Virgin Birth.

Asides from this, we also hope that we will impact our campus by building and forming relationships amongst all students. Throughout the year we will be having social events such as pizza nights and film & discussion nights. We hope to be a place welcoming to all, regardless of background or beliefs, scepticism is always welcome. All that is needed is a questioning mind!

As a society we are affiliated with Maynooth Students Union, and we aim to co-operate closely with other societies throughout the coming year. For the two years, we held a Thanksgiving Dinner with the NUIM International Society. We have held two debates previously with the Literary and Debating Society on the motions “This house believes that one cannot be truly moral without God” and “That to be Religious is to be Moral”, which the Maynooth CU team won. We are committed to being an active part of student life on the NUI Maynooth / St. Patrick’s campus. We look forward to more positive interaction with other societies on our campus.

We are also affiliated with IFES Ireland one member group of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES) both more locally in Europe, and throughout the world. Our relationship with IFES Ireland is crucially important and throughout the year we are involved in numerous events that they hold throughout the year including Joint Colleges an inter-CU event where people from the different CU’s in Ireland meet together in Ovoca Manor in Wicklow during the October holidays, and CUAC (Christian Union Annual Conference)  in April.

Throughout the year we also hold joint events with other Christian Unions in the Dublin area.

The Bible Study times for the coming year have not yet been confirmed, but they usually take place twice a week in Meeting Room 2 in the SU Building. Watch this space!
